About the Album
For The Last Light, we wanted to build on our signature sound, taking Scotland’s finest artists and weaving them across electronic production, but we also wanted to go further. This time, we wanted to say something. Songs like Where Do I Go, Destination Melbourne, and The Years take an honest look at Highland and Scottish society today: what it means to love where you come from while watching it change, and not being sure whether that change is for the better. Across the rest of the album, we set out to capture the sound of a modern Scotland, enlisting five artists who represent exactly that: Beluga Lagoon, Lucia & The Best Boys, Ruairidh Gray, Julie Fowlis, and Kim Carnie. Five vastly different artists, all successful in their own right, and all an absolute joy to work with. At the heart of the album is the core band. Lana and Eilidh brought deep Gaelic expertise and fantastic vocals, drawing from traditional sources while also introducing fresh, original Gaelic material. One track, Close Your Eyes, was written specifically for Eilidh by rising Gaelic star Isla Scott and features what may be the first use of Gaelic in a vocoder. Euan’s eclectic knowledge of stringed instruments proved invaluable, with his fiddle taking centre stage. And Finn brought a whole new perspective to the bagpipe and whistle tracks that sit at the heart of this album.
This album has been supported by the PPL Momentum Music Fund. PPL Momentum is managed by PRS Foundation, with support from PPL, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Creative Wales.
